Salt
1. Sowing with salt – so nothing will ever grow
Cursing the Earth – make it unlivable
2. You were always at my heels when I couldn’t find feet
Spilling venom in the water and the blood of the seed
Let the flame lick your body – let the rain soothe your wounds
Set your aim at the folly and the chain out of view
3. I will cast my image where a face does not belong
Adoration of a mystic lamb but the divine value evaded
Something about you demands my attention but apathy is a path we walk too often
Relax yourself, child.
For they shall be shaken by beauty far more violent than truancy.
*Contextual notes:
White supremacy is the proverbial salt; with implications to human supremacy i.e. ecocide.
“You were always at my heels when I couldn’t find feet”, refers to the common plea of ignorance as an excuse on behalf of the oppressors. As a white person, I have used this excuse in the past. I choose to take accountability for those mistakes and grow from what I have learned.
The mystic lamb, in reference to the Ghent Altarpiece, is revered but ultimately sacrificed. Alluding to the way white people tokenize and appropriate POC’s culture but in turn, will dismiss those people to progress whites interests.
